WHAT WE BELIEVE - Christians are the Church
For many of us, church is a regular and important part of our life. We carry a legacy of faith that has been handed to us from generations of Christians. For as long as we can remember, the phraseology of “church” and “going to church” carries with it the idea of meeting together in a sanctuary or even perhaps a warehouse, school, or movie theater. We connect the gathering of God’s people to an event in a physical space as part of our regular practice of worship.
In scripture, the idea of the church is a much different concept. The church is not connected to a building and any physical space is mentioned merely as a prop to mark where the church has gathered. You see, in scripture, the church is a people far more than it is a building. The Apostle Peter gives us a great picture of our identity of God’s people (1 Peter 2:9-10) and helps us to consider our purpose and place in this world.
This week, we will be looking at what we believe about the church to discover our own identity amongst the people of God.
