The Greatest Story of All - God's Vision Embodied
Christmas is upon us. The time is near when we will celebrate the birth of Christ and find that Isaiah’s words have come to life. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) The anticipation of generations has been realized in Jesus of Nazareth who is the Messiah, the Christ. This wonderful announcement that was heralded by angels is a gift to all people. In Jesus, our hopes and dreams, the longing of a broken world has been answered. God’s response is not the establishment of a new philosophy or political empire, but the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. All of this is summed up and centered around Joseph and Mary’s son. Instead of a king arraigned with glory we find a commoner wrapped in humility.
The beauty of this message is that it is for Jew and Gentile, male and female, slave and free. It is for those who are anxiously watching for God’s promise and those who are unaware of it. This Christmas, may we realize that unto us a child is born, Jesus the Christ.
