Prospective Families

Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Pathways School is based on how children typically develop. Our classes aim to foster development of the whole child: addressing their cognitive, physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and creative developmental domains. While we do include some structure and routine to our school day, play is still a priority because that is how children process and learn bout their world!

Our movement program, Stretch-n-Grow (and P.E. for kindergarten), helps students learn body awareness and practice gross motor skills such as hopping, jumping, running, throwing/catching a ball, skipping, and balancing. The curriculum in this class uses a variety of creative teaching styles (interactive storytelling, games, songs, and dancing) to help these skills develop within your child.

Our Science class introduces students to the world around them and gives them an opportunity to learn more about God’s amazing creation. Students begin the year learning about science safety and how to stay safe and healthy. Throughout the year, students make observations, conduct investigations and learn science vocabulary while using real science tools.

In our Pathways Chapel service, students learn about the Bible and how it applies to our daily life. Chapel lessons each year focus on a general theme like Fruits of the Spirit, Armor of God, or a Bible survey/overview. Bible stories and characters related to our theme, monthly memory verses, and child-friendly prayers and songs are all used to reinforce the truth that God loves us all the time! In each classroom, teachers provide creative, innovative and developmentally appropriate best practices to foster children’s spiritual, motor, language, cognitive, and social/emotional growth.

Students engage in meaningful play and activities that allow them to practice a variety of early writing and reading skills, math concepts, problem-solving, self-expression and more. Heavy emphasis is placed on children developing strong phonemic awareness (auditory skill) in the 2s - Pre K & Bridge classes. This will give students a solid foundation for more formal phonics (sound-symbol relationship) instruction later in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Letter recognition and alphabet knowledge is also taught simultaneously, beginning with children’s names and later cycling through the whole alphabet multiple times and including other meaningful print.

We offer Tues/Thus, Mon/Wed/Fri, and Monday-Friday classes for children ages two through four, a Mon-Thurs Bridge class (young 5s), as well as a full-time kindergarten. Our kindergarten class follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) set forth by the state and covers a lot of academic ground. The much smaller class size enables the teacher to individualize instruction for students more than other settings. Kindergarten follows a nine week grading period with report cards going home at the end of each period.
