Back to School - Brazil flood relief
Today we want to share with you about what’s happening in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in Southern Brazil.
In May 2024, the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, faced devastating floods caused by heavy rains. It was the worst flooding in the state's history, displacing over half a million people and leaving over 160 dead. While lives and entire cities are being rebuild, we are working to help children find a sense of normalcy and safety.
The Dripping Springs Methodist Church, in partnership with AEPEIRS (Association of Private Schools of Early Education of Rio Grande do Sul) is raising monetary donations to help children affected by the floods go back to school.
With the donations, kits of school supplies will be purchased in Brazil and distributed, with the help of local institutions.
Right now, each kit comes up to $5, so any amount can make a huge difference. As we work to implement more items to the kit (such as backpacks, we will update you on this page)
Not able to donate at this point? Prayers are appreciated for the families affected, rescue teams, cities and state officials as they work on reconstructing entire towns.
