A Missional Family

This Sunday's message from Brian Sherman challenged us to examine a fundamental question that echoes through generations: Who will we serve? Drawing from Joshua 24:14-15, we're confronted with the same choice the Israelites faced as they entered the Promised Land. The call is clear and uncompromising—we cannot serve both God and the gods of this world, whether they be materialism, success, popularity, or political allegiances. The declaration 'as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord' isn't just a one-time decision but a daily commitment that shapes every moment of our lives. What makes this message particularly compelling is its emphasis on generational faithfulness. When we truly know and love God, that transformation ripples through our entire household, creating a light that pierces darkness in our communities. The challenge isn't to travel across the world necessarily, but to be missionaries right where we are—in our neighborhoods, at the grocery store, in our daily interactions. This message reminds us that God's blessing of Abraham came with an expectation: to be blessed so that we might bless others. As we navigate our modern world with its competing voices and values, we must ask ourselves each morning: Will we rise up and serve the Lord today, teaching our children and households not just through words but through the way we live every single moment?
