Kingdom of Heaven: A New Imagination

Hello Church!

In the book of Exodus, God guides the people of Israel to Mt. Sinai, where He provides them with the Torah, or “the teaching,” outlining how they should live in the world. In the Gospel of Matthew, the author seeks to recreate this imagery by presenting Jesus as lawgiver, akin to Moses. Matthew employs the setting of Sinai and the diving gift of the law to depict Jesus as the giver of gifts, articulating the principles for living in the Kingdom of Heaven in the Sermon on the Mount.

Over the coming weeks, we will explore the parallels between Exodus and Matthew, envisioning how our lives and the world might transform if we actively apply these teachings as we follow Jesus.

Grace & Peace,

Rev. Adam Thornton
