Encountering Jesus - A Father’s Love
Hello Church!
This week, I have been on a mission trip in nearby San Antonio with a camp called Blueprint Ministries with a small group of students. Blueprint is an amazing group who's goal is to make San Antonio a warmer, drier, safer San Antonio. This is mine and Katrina's third time going to Blueprint since being in Dripping Springs, but we have an even longer history with them prior to joining DSMC.
It has been an amazing week! Let me first say, don't worry, we have had no students fall off any roofs (maybe some close calls...). But it has truly been an amazing thing to see students, ranging from 11-17 years old, taking time from their precious summer to be the hands and feet of Jesus here in San Antonio. We have been working on Miss Janie's house, first de-shingling and then putting new shingles on a portion of her roof. Despite the hot sun, despite short attention spans, despite being able to do something else with their summer, these students have been so incredibly invested and enthusiastic to put in this work and share Jesus' love with Miss Janie. They haven't just been on the roof working, but they have also been building a relationship with Miss Janie through very meaningful conversations that she does not get to have that often.
This week reminds me of my dad. My dad is like so many of our dads who just seem to know how to fix things. I would love for him to join me on this trip in the future, because he would be able to show me the way once again! I am so grateful for the many things that my dad taught me growing up, and though probably not as well, I am able to be with these students this week and help show them how to use their hands and feet to serve God. This Sunday is Father's Day, and it is so important that we take the time to remember the good things that we have inherited from our fathers. No matter your relationship with your father, you have inherited something from them. Whether it is mannerisms, your faith, or even just physical appearance, we have all inherited something from our fathers. This needs to remind us that our children or those who are younger than us are always looking to us to try and find a way to live life. We will pass on our way of living to the generations after us, and this means we must look to Jesus because we don't always know what we are doing! But Jesus does! And if Jesus is the one guiding us, just maybe we will pass on the love of Jesus to the generations after us.
I look forward to being with you all this Sunday, and I hope you have an incredible rest of your week!
Sincerely,
Brian Sherman
