Eyes Opened Along the Way

4/19/26

This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we are truly walking in the right direction with Christ, or if we have become disoriented despite our religious activities. Drawing from the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, we are confronted with a sobering reality: it is entirely possible to know the truth, attend church regularly, and even read Scripture daily, yet still walk in the opposite direction from where Jesus is calling us.

The two disciples were literally walking away from Jerusalem, where Jesus had told them to gather, heading instead toward Emmaus. Their eyes were closed to the risen Christ walking beside them because they were seeking a different kind of salvation—a political liberation rather than spiritual transformation. This mirrors our own tendency to approach faith as a means to achieve our personal dreams, find happiness, or secure a better life, rather than embracing the complete and sufficient work of Christ's resurrection. The message reminds us that the entire Old Testament points to Jesus, from Genesis 3:15 through Isaiah 53, and that when we truly understand the gospel, our hearts should burn within us.

The question we must ask ourselves is whether we are on a religious procession going nowhere, or genuinely following the risen Christ on His path toward making disciples of all nations.
