The Resurrection Hope

What happens to us after we die? It is one of the most profound questions we can ask, and in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul gives us an answer that is far more astonishing than we might expect. The resurrection is not simply a spiritual escape from the physical world. It is a total transformation of the whole person. Paul uses the image of a seed to help us grasp this truth. When a seed is planted, it does not simply vanish. It dies and gives rise to something entirely new, something that could not have been predicted from looking at the seed alone. In the same way, the bodies we have now are not discarded in the resurrection but are raised, renewed, and glorified. This challenges both the ancient Greek tendency to dismiss the body as corrupt and our own modern assumptions about what eternal life looks like. The resurrection is not an escape from creation but the redemption of it. And at the center of all of this stands Christ himself, the first fruits, the living proof that this transformation is not wishful thinking but a done deal. Because it has already happened in him, we have every reason to anchor our hope in it.
