Who Is This?

Palm Sunday, a day of triumph and celebration is also mixed with a sense of finality. Jesus enters Jerusalem for the last time in his earthly ministry. His hour has finally arrived and, by the end of the week, the cross would claim the life of the Son of God.

It is a moment in time where the cross is most distant in the mind of the crowds who love and adore Christ. Though the air was filled with prophecy, the people only saw Jesus as prophet. This title of honor for the people brings to mind the title of John the baptizer as prophet, and also his end. Jesus’ death is foreshadowed unknowingly by the crowds that hail him as King.

This week, we will be looking closely at the day of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem in Matthew 21:1-11. The people who greeted Jesus as king, healing shepherd, and prophet, would soon heed the voice of the Jewish leaders who called for His crucifixion.

Grace & Peace,

Rev. Adam Thornton
