WHAT WE BELIEVE - Christians Worship Together
Two months ago, we began the sermon series What We Believe and expressed our belief in one God: God the Father Almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth. We also affirmed our belief in God the Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Later, we confessed that God is with us through His Holy Spirit, who is also God. We declared that God inspired the Bible and plays a significant role in our lives as followers of Jesus Christ. Finally, we preached that the temple or building is not the Church but that we (brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus) are the Church.
In the book of Acts, Luke gives us a picture of the life of the Church, the Christian community of Jerusalem. More important than the outward signs, such as (speaking in tongues) employed at Pentecost, is the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit and the productive effects on the Church. The Spirit united them and gave them a beautiful brotherhood. The disciples and the three thousand people followed the apostles’ teaching, in communion, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers (v. 42), all done with joy.
This week, we will look at what we believe about how the Church worships together and follows the example of the believers in the first century.
