Does Prayer Really Matter?

This week, as we continue our exploration of spiritual disciplines, we will be discussing the public and private practice of prayer. In scripture, we find that prayer is a discipline to be practiced publicly but also privately.

In the first century church prior to 70AD, the followers of Jesus met on Sundays for fellowship and teaching. They also were faithful to attend worship in the Temple on the Sabbath. It was in the Temple that they practiced the public prayers that were part of the Jewish method of worship. Additionally, Jesus encouraged them not in the regular practice of prayer (they already did that) but in how they engaged in prayer in private.

This week in worship we will be considering how we are called to practice a rhythm of public and private prayer and how we might go about making that rhythm a consistent part of our life of faith.

Grace & Peace,

Rev. Adam Thornton
