Encountering Jesus - Living Water

Hey, Church, this week I get to step up to the pulpit!

My husband, Hunter, and I have been worshipping with you for a little while now, and I’m happy to formally introduce myself this week and fill in as your preacher.

We are in the season after Easter, where we consider our encounters with the Living God. You have been looking at some in-person encounters with Jesus in the Gospels, and I get to pick up where Brian left off in the Gospel of John.  We’ll meet the woman at the well and think about how her experience might help us understand our own.

There is so much to say about this unnamed woman in Scripture. I could tell you about how Jesus responded to a woman and offered her grace even though he was experiencing the human emotion of tiredness. I could tell you all about how Jesus crossed boundaries and went to forbidden places, or I could even talk a lot about how this woman has gotten a reputation she does not deserve.  I could probably preach five sermons from this passage, but even though I am pumped to preach again after a long sabbatical, I am going to try to preach just one. I hope you will be there for it.

I am so grateful for the living water I have found at DSMC, and I look forward to sharing my story. May we all find refreshment for our thirsty souls.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Stella Burkhalter
