WHAT WE BELIEVE - Redemption In Christ
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is poured out on the twelve disciples in the upper room, as well as those who were present. By some accounts, there were up to 120 people gathered together awaiting the promise of Jesus. It was a sacred moment in the history of the church, to be sure, but what happened next was fascinating.
Peter, standing before the crowds that were gathered outside, proclaims the gospel for the first time following the ascension of Jesus. During his preaching, Peter shares with these first hearers the essence of the gospel and the very center of our faith. Salvation is found in no one else because there is no other name by which we might be saved. Jesus is the very center of our faith and the focus of our gospel.
In the Global Methodist Church, we carry on the Wesleyan tradition of the centrality of Jesus Christ. This week, as we continue part two of our sermon series, What We Believe, we will discuss this doctrine of the centrality of Christ and consider how it practically plays out in our lives as Christians.
